Payroll: As, if not MORE important than HR Management.

Payroll: As, if not MORE important than HR Management.

We taked about the benefits of HR management Software, but an even greater requirement for a smooth running company is a way for HR and Accounts to manage the payroll.
For a business that employs residents of different states or even countries is is essential that the company’s human resources department take advantage of the technological capabilities of HR payroll software programs to ensure that their employees'paychecks reflect the correct withholding for their jurisdiction.

Using payroll software also ensures that the business itself is in compliance for payroll tax withholding. While income tax withholding is done on the employee’s paycheck, the business, as the employer, is still responsible for making payments for Social Security and Medicare. While based upon the employee’s paycheck these payments are made by the business itself. In the US for example, if a business fails to make the correct Social Security and Medicare payments to the Social Security Administration then it can find itself owing hefty penalties and interest in addition to the Social Security and Medicare taxes already due.

For businesses that operate within and outside of the United States, using payroll tax software to correctly calculate and administer their employees'paychecks and payroll taxes is even more important. Every country as a unique set of laws and regulations, and while the company may be able to make payments in that country’s currency, without knowing the correct withholding rates, interest tables, and other important factors necessary to correctly compute payroll taxes and net paychecks, it is impossible for the company to remain in compliance. If a company is found by a foreign country to not be in compliance with its payroll tax laws, then not only will it be forced to pay expensive fines and interest on the taxes due, it may even find itself banned from doing business in the country.

Got to love these adverts

Got to love these adverts

I thought we’d have a change of pace and topic and talk about good ol'beer instead, particularly, Fosters and it’s great new ad campaign.
Foster’s, an Australian brewing company, has always been keen to up the ante in the advertisement and promotions world. The presence of the beer brands has been attributed to an investment towards advertisement by the company. The advertisement of major labels has seen the brand retain top position in beer brewing. The famous blue and gold cans have been prominently displayed on supermarket shelves. This success is attributed to the media richness and capacity.

The Good Call campaign launched in July 2010 has gained positive reception by the British public. Brad and Dad, two youngsters from Australia, have captured the hearts of consumers in a string of fosters beer adverts. The two guys keep people glue to their screen thus a contributing factor to sales effectiveness.

On the other hand, Fosters has taken full advantage of the success of its Good Call campaign and has vowed to make it as comprehensive as possible. Apart from catchy television advertisements, Fosters has pulled a bevy of integrated marketing and promotion techniques.

In order to bring the campaign closer to the general public, Fosters has organized sporting events in Australia and other parts of the world in a bid to market their beer product. The street advertisements are driven by Mediavest and Kinetic, advertisement firms hired to create a public appeal of Foster’s products.

With a lot of buzz surrounding their advertisements and the large response from consumers in Britain, it is certainly going to keep each viewer on their toes. Overall, the Good Will campaign has been a big success and with the increase in commercials, the sky is the limit for Foster’s.

Is HR management software all it’s cracked up to be?

Is HR management software all it’s cracked up to be?

So you are a business person like me, and you want to know what the HR management software craze is all about. Is the stuff really worth investing in? The answer depends upon who you ask and it depends largely upon your company’s size and needs. Maybe your company is so small that you can handle HR without a program or a dedicated staff. If this is the case, then more power to you. For most of us, though, HR management software is an absolute gift. It provides a great deal of leeway and can free you up to do meaningful business things.

Managing your people can be a challenge. How do you handle benefits and days off? What do you do when an employee continues to receive complaints from other employees? How do you make sure everyone is paid on time and the right amount? Talk about a time consuming challenge and you have one right here. With HR management software, all of that stuff is taken care of. If you are spending too much of your time currently messing with these issues, then perhaps this software can give you a leg up on the competition.

If you run a small business and you cut checks to your two employees every other week, then maybe it’s not for you. For the bulk of business owners, though, HR management software can be a valuable resource. Think about all of the things you can do with your time when you aren’t busy messing with human resources issues every day. This should open your eyes to some of the possibilities that exist.

Choosing an IT Support Company

Choosing an IT Support Company

Regardless of the type of business you are in, you should be able to access IT support services whenever you require. You can have an in-house IT support team or can hire a London IT company to provide software and hardware support services. Information Technology is very crucial in today’s business environment and having the right IT support company is critical.

IT support companies come up every day and selecting the right one can be challenging. There is tough competition among the companies and as a result, there are also varied prices. Some companies offer additional services to differentiate themselves from the crowded market.

When looking for an IT support company, search for local based firms. This is important especially if you will need on-site support or regular trainings on hardware and software. If you will only require remote support services, there are many companies that provide this. The companies come in handy during emergencies but their costs are usually high.

The IT company you choose should provide unlimited on-site and off-site support without any hidden charges. Moreover, the support should cover everything related to Information technology, whether it is a hardware or general software problem. You can decide to pay the company a fixed service rate or based on every job they do.

Finally, you should have a service level contract (SLA) contract. It is advisable to insist on up to a maximum of four hour. The SLA should outline the obligations of the IT support company as well as your rights.

The above are some of the things you should consider when you are choosing an IT support company.

Video Games Don’t Create Violent Children

Video Games Don’t Create Violent Children

Video games do not create violent children. They are often blamed for creating children who are more likely to commit crimes, especially violent crimes, but there is not a shred of evidence that the millions of children playing violent video games everyday are educating themselves against evil. And in fact, there’s actually no evidence either for the opposite, that in fact these children are learning important lessons about real life, about how to be a good person and how to act correctly in social situations. But no, parents and concerned politicians just see the chainsaws and gun violence rather than seeing the good sides of the games and ignoring the evidence that we already have.
The thing that is very easy to forget is that these games have been around for many years and don’t seem to have had much of an impact of the way that children act. Sure, with so many children playing the games it’s inevitable that a few who commit violent crimes will find themselves tied to some campaign that tries to blame video games rather than blaming the news media. It is after all in the news media where we every day witness the evidence and occurrence of many violent crimes. And before it was video games it was movies, television shows, and books. Even the Bible contains quite a lot of quite brutal violence but you very rarely see the Bible blamed for being so bad.
No, video games get all the slack. And people spend so little time actually trying to diagnose what’s really wrong with some kids. They instead ignore the ways that millions of completely law abiding children are able to benefit from using video games. And it is in this field where there is evidence to back up claims. While games do cost a lost, and you may eat into the investment you made with the help of Galvan you will find that it’s worth the price.

Living In The Future?

Remember The Dark Knight? I’m sure you do: it was Christopher Nolan’s incredible take on Batman, and one of the films in recent years which employed a whole load of technology which is both bafflingly progressive and also very close to things that have already been invented.

I know, you thought this was going to be about Heath Ledger, didn’t you? Well sorry, it’s not (although I do happen to think that you can’t really over-rate his performance. The guy clearly will be missed for many years and was undoubtedly one of the best actors out there).

So anyway, what I am getting to, eventually, is talking (or writing as is more accurate) about the mobile phone scene. It’s one of the more unnecessary scenes of the movie if you ask me, but it does raise an interesting point about what is now possible with mobile phone technology: the mobile scene, if you’re still not sure or haven’t seen the film (shame!) is the bit when millions of mobile phones are used to triangulate a location, or something. The point it is trying to make is that it’s not always necessary to have visual proof of things because by gathering together all the signals you can create a virtual signal which is as good as having a CCTV camera look at something.

This impressed me, and got me thinking: could this be real? So I checked it out, and yes, it can be real. What happened in the film is a little far fetched but technically could be done, maybe. And that really amazed me: scared me because I thought “If that’s possible then you could potentially see through walls…” and made me excited because I thought about all the ways in which this would make people feel so much more secure.

Next time you look at your argos discount codes or you’re email inbox, then, have a think about what the future of buying things and seeing things will look like, because if the rumours about technology are really true then we are already living in the future…

Inception: Fact Or Fiction?

Inception was, by anyone’s standards, a pretty breathtaking film. It might not have been to everyone’s taste (I myself thought it was good but possibly didn’t capitalize on all the amazing possibilities it visually could have done, but that’s for another blog post really) but nobody can argue it wasn’t thought provoking. Which brings me to the point of this post: what if we were closer to the kind of technology in Inception than we previously thought? What would happen if we could suddenly read peoples minds and see exactly what they are thinking?

Panic, of course, because no matter what you’re thinking – even if it’s only “I wonder why my argos discount vouchers haven’t arrived in the post yet, hmm” –it’s pretty alarming to consider that someone could technically just gain entry to all those personal thoughts.

So, thinking about all this, it’s no wonder I was slightly concerned when I read in the news that science is now even closer to being able to see and interpret the dreams of sleeping people; I’m not saying they can see an exact vision of what people are dreaming, because I don’t think that’s going to be possible for some time, but I am saying that according to this and other articles I have read (another one talks about being able to communicate with patients who are in a coma state) we are now significantly closer than we have ever been to seeing a basic interpretation of what it is that people are dreaming. Which is amazing and scary when you stop to think about it…To imagine that somewhere out there, the seed of this technology has already been planted…

Too Tech?

Grabbing my argos discount vouchers out of my wallet last night, I was, once again, reminded of how huge a part technology plays in all our lives, every second of the day. Take the vouchers for example: I’d printed them off line, using a small machine connected to the USB drive on my laptop. But imagine if USBs had never have been invented. What a pain. I’d have had to wait for the vouchers in the post or something, and what a nightmare that would have been…(especially seeing that the post, worldwide, seems to be getting worse than it always was, which was already quite bad…)

But there again, for all its amazing capabilities, there are still massive widespread problems with technology and everything associated with it: running before you can walk, really. Take the massive oil spill which spilled a ridiculous (and incalculable) amount of oil into the sea killing countless animals everywhere, not just the United States. It was revealed last night that the spill was probably due to a problem with some cement. In other words, yet another sign that our greed for money and commerce is growing at an alarming rate, meaning that we are sacrificing checking some things before we should really be using them on such a vast scale…

I really have trouble with the technology debate: on one side, it’s responsible for saving millions if not billions of people worldwide, and on the other it kills quite a few and makes quite a lot more problems. But I guess it’ll always be like this – it’s a case of us never having enough and always wanting more.

Breaking Medical Barriers

Forget key-hole surgery. Forget laser hair removal techniques capable of incredible feats. Forget, even, the amazing machines that are now a regular thing in hospitals. These things, though highly impressive, might have been the next new things a few years ago but now there is something else: bioengineering technology which is making operations possible which are so far-fetched that even the science-fiction films of the 80s would have rendered them almost unbelievable. We’re talking not just machines here but a whole new generation of inventions right down to the microscopic level. For example, did you know that now doctors are able to make a fully-functional map of the interior of the body and project it onto a screen where they can quite literally “virtually” walk around the body, seeing every tiny detail? And I mean this in the literal sense. Watching a documentary on Discovery the other day, I was simply baffled by the way a doctor was able to go INSIDE a tumour before he went anywhere near it. Using this technique he was able to discover the intricacies of the problem he was about to face, meaning that he could be very well prepared without having to cut the patient open. It’s extremely difficult to predict how far – and more importantly, what direction – technology will go in the next few years. We’ve made predictions and been wrong before, and the way science is moving, we will likely be wrong again, and hopefully in fantastic new ways that will benefit seriously ill patients.

Grab A Chisel If You Can

We live in an age of perpetual regret. We’ve come full circle. We started off appreciative of technology and went on to despise it – while also simultaneously loving it and going out and buying everything we said we hated – and now we were somewhere in the middle, not quite sure of what to do and arguing all the time about it. We couldn’t be without it but we know we don’t need it, not all of it. It’s a double-edged sword, and every now and again it cuts someone’s guts right open and says YOU NEED ME. TRY LIVING WITHOUT ME AND SEE HOW FAR YOU GET! What about the miners in Chilli, for example? Seven hundred meters underground and without any other hope from a mechanical drill? There’s no way they’d be getting out if technology suddenly stopped its raging progression. It wouldn’t matter how many people you got there with chisels, a rescue attempt would be unimaginable even if every man and woman in the world descended upon the place (and, more importantly, it’d be extremely dangerous. Think of all them people hitting their fingers with hammers! And think of the risk of the mine collapsing further, of course). How to go about finding equilibrium between technology and the environment is possibly the biggest challenge we have ever had to face. The next hundred years will be a battle of massive proportions (people having to re-consider having Liposuction surgery when they should really be spending that money on things like solar panels for the roof), as the world fights back against being polluted and us inhabitants try to make our peace with a world that once loved us and now is having second thoughts.
